Hungry for Change

Former President of NOHA (now the ANA), Donna Ichikawa reccomends a great movie called Hungry For Change.

This film provides insight for why it's so hard to stop the sugars, artificial sweeteners and starches, including gluten free and how it's effecting our body and our health. Free until March 31st. Take a minute and watch it for your own longevity and your family during this spring break.

Vitamin D Solution

In March 2012, the American Nutrition Assocation was delighted to welcome Michael F. Holick, PhD, MD to speak about The D-Lightful Vitamin D.

Attendees to this lecture received a personally signed copy of Dr. Holicks recently published book, The Vitamin D Solution; A 3 Step Strategy to Cure Our Most Common Health Problems.

His book is being very well received and peers are emphasizing the importance of Dr. Holick's message.

Strawberry Safety

When Arysta LifeScience abruptly pulled methyl iodide off the market this week, it cited the “economic viability” of the controversial fumigant, which is used to sterilize soil before crops are planted.

But at a hearing in an Oakland courtroom Wednesday, another factor emerged: Arysta was on the verge of losing a major lawsuit.

Frankenfish

It was the two-headed baby trout that got everyone’s attention.

Images from the appendix of a report by the J. R. Simplot Company show the mutated offspring of trout from Idaho creeks. The report concluded that selenium should be allowed in higher levels in creeks than is now permitted under regulations.

GMO Warnings

For America's agricultural biotech companies, the corn rootworm is threatening to turn into their worst nightmare.

Last year, we reported that a major insect pest, the corn rootworm, had "found a chink in the armor" of genetically engineered crops. In several different places across the corn belt, the insects have developed resistance to an inserted gene that is supposed to kill them.

Animal Antibiotics

Back in 1977, the FDA proposed a ban on putting penicillin and other antibiotics in animal feed solely for the purpose of promoting growth. Amazingly, that proposal has been gathering dust long enough to begin losing its hair and regretting its life choices. That is until yesterday, when a federal court ordered the FDA to finish what it started 35 years ago.

Cosmetic Safety

In the wake of recent scandals involving mercury in face cream, formaldehyde in hair products and lead in lipstick, the House Energy and Commerce Committee has called the first official Congressional hearing on cosmetics safety in more than 30 years. The hearing will take place March 27, 2012.
