National Non-Profit Environmental Group Seeking Nutritionist
Interested in a non-profit job where you can use your knowledge on health and nutrition to help others? Are you at home with writing, presenting, data mining (with help from others), collaborative research, and challenging the status quo on food and nutrition policy? The Environmental Working Group (EWG) seeks a nutritionist to join an advocacy team in Washington, DC that delivers what the press has called “policy-rattling results.” Our team of scientists, engineers, policy experts, lawyers and computer programmers conducts original data-driven, science-based research focused on finding ways to help human health and the environment.
Duties
EWG seeks a nutritionist with a commitment to public health and the environment, an eagerness to think beyond old-school nutrition and food policy, and a desire to carry out research and promote policies that get farmers growing and people eating healthier foods that are better for the environment, too. Specific duties include:
- Compile and analyze data on food quality, nutrition, and other relevant information to help EWG build an online food database that guides people to smarter food choices.
- Develop original studies – science and policy analyses – that inform consumers and educate policy makers and the media on the state of conventional farming, food manufacturing, and eating – and how to fix what’s broken.
- Help EWG transform the Farm Bill into the Food Bill and win changes that improve farming and food production practices and food choices for Americans.
- Work independently, but also contribute expertise to project teams.
- Solve problems and conduct research related to food quality and nutrition policy.
Qualifications
Successful applicants will have:
- A love for problem solving, research, writing, and working with others in a multidisciplinary, fast paced setting.
- At least an MS degree in nutrition.
- Solid grasp of nutrition science, dietary guidelines, labeling and related issues.
- Knowledge of food policy and programs is helpful.
- Detail-oriented and meticulous approach to data analysis and presentation.
- Comfortable with rapidly moving project timelines and willing to adapt to the evolving science and policy priorities of the organization.
- Preferred: Five or more years experience in related position for corporate, academic, government or non-profit organizations.
This position will report to EWG’s Senior Vice President for Research.
Location: Washington, D.C.
Compensation: Depends on experience and skills. Excellent health and dental insurance; tax-deferred 403 (b) savings plan.
