Contra Costa Health Services is a comprehensive county health system that meets the needs of residents in a variety of ways. The Public Health Division has a temporary, part-time opportunity available for a Public Health Nutritionist to work with the County-wide Pediatric Obesity Medical Group Appointments Team consisting of five 1.5 hour sessions for approximately 6-12 children in the County’s Health Centers. We’ll rely on you to provide nutrition counseling, nutrition education, referrals to other services and develop nutrition education components.  We’ll also rely on you to monitor and assess the program, conduct client surveys and data analysis of existing program services, provide work direction to program staff and assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of grants for funding related to the program. This position has the possibility of full time. 

This opportunity requires an independent worker with a valid Registered Dietitian Certification, 2 years of full-time or equivalent experience performing community-based nutrition work and knowledge of human nutrition, social, cultural and economic problems of individuals and families, accepted educational methods in public health, community resources, and recent nutrition research.  The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, speak effectively before large groups, prepare clear/concise reports and provide nutrition services is essential. A Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition or a closely related field may substitute for 1 year of the required experience. Experience/certification in weight management for children and adolescents and Spanish/English bilingual skills would be a plus.
