Ketogenic Nutrition

Ketogenic Specialist Training Program to Launch in Spring 2018

The objective of the American Nutrition Association is to both raise public awareness of the application of the ketogenic diet in the treatment of a broad range of chronic metabolic diseases and to fill the gap in education and training of nutrition professionals and other healthcare practitioners on the clinical application of the ketogenic diet, with the goal of improving quality of life where this diet is indicated.

For Health Care Professionals
There is much material and research available about the application of the ketogenic diet but little in the way of vetted training programs and materials for healthcare practitioners currently exists. The American Nutrition Association is developing an online educational program for nutritionists and other healthcare practitioners on the clinical application of the ketogenic diet that will be available in the Spring of 2018.

The full program will consist of 7 modules, plus a capstone and comprehensive exam, and will be geared to nutrition professionals and other healthcare practitioners with nutrition in the scope of practice. A prerequisite module will be available for those practitioners without sufficient competencies in nutritional biochemistry and other foundational nutrition topics.

Training Program Structure

Learners may choose from 3 distinct pathways of learning:

1) Letter of Completion: Requires completion of modules 1 and 2, to provide dietary basics for health coaches, consumers and patients who plan to adopt, or are currently following, a ketogenic diet. No prerequisites are required.

2) Module-Specific Training: Healthcare practitioners, after completing modules 1 through 3, may take any of the remaining modules for continuing education credits, without completing the full training program. This option requires fulfillment of prerequisites and is designed for those wishing to focus on a specific health issue and do not wish to complete the full program.

3) Comprehensive Training Program: Designed to meet eligibility requirements for Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists' keto specialist certification, this pathway is for healthcare practitioners and requires fulfillment of prerequisites, full completion of all 7 modules, capstone and comprehensive exam.

The training program will be launched in the Spring of 2018. If you would like to be added to our contact list to learn when registration for this course is open, please contact us.
