Dr. Moss on Nutrition in Managing
Jeffrey Moss, DDS, CNS, DACBN, presented a two-part program in May for the ANA. A workshop entitled Learn to Identify High-Quality Supplements was a behind the scenes look at how supplements are manufactured and the very limited amount of oversight and regulation that applies. Manufacturing practices and voluntary quality procedures are essential to insure the consumer receives a safe product and a product that contains the ingredients in the correct amount.
Dr. Moss provided supplier survey tools (below) that can be used to verify the procedures used by a supplement supplier to insure that you are getting the value and quality you are paying for.
The second presentation by Dr. Moss was entitled: The Stress-Disease Link: The Essential Role of Clinical Nutrition. In this eye opening presentation, Dr. Moss indicated that research is somewhat more limited than people suspect on the benefits of supplements for treating health conditions. Many take vitamins and minerals on a general 'it couldn't hurt' basis, without addressing individual deficiencies that may require specific types of supplementation. A silver-bullet approach can seldom be effective as we all have different biochemical needs. With stress being such a significant impact on most people's health, if the causes of stress are not addressed, the body may be sufficiently impaired that the supplements may not be properly absorbed and unable to render benefit to the body.
Dr. Moss's programs are available on DVD. $20 for both programs. $15 for ANA Members
