A supervised practice component (320 Hours) is divided into rotations at specifically approved sites, which will afford you the opportunity to achieve core competencies established by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education. General areas of supervised practice are Clinical, Community, and Food-Service Management. Additionally you must accrue a minimum of one week of enrichment experience(s).
The SFA Dietetic Internship program is divided into two components--graduate education and supervised practice at specific approved rotation sites. The graduate courses are designed to expand the knowledge base used by a competent, entry-level Registered Dietitian. During the long semesters the didactic classes meet on Monday afternoon or evening only.
Program Philosophy:
The mission of the Stephen F. Austin State University Dietetic Internship is to prepare individuals as entry-level generalists in traditional and emerging dietetics professions. Goals are as follows: to enable students to achieve competencies stated by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education for entry level practitioners in clinical, community, and management dietetics. To prepare students to successfully write the registration examination for dietetics. To prepare graduates for life-long learning and advancement in dietetics through professional activities and development.
